The People Behind PowerMarket: Meet Collin Jamieson

Business Operations Analyst
Because you just started at PowerMarket, could you tell me about your professional background?
The first job I ever had was in Tokyo, Japan. I lived in Tokyo working for a utility scale solar company out there. That's really what got me interested in clean energy and renewables. Later, I worked full-time in sales at a tech company in Denver. After two years of that, I knew I wanted to shift my career and that's when I got my MBA at Georgetown. During that time, I worked for a community solar company developer and that’s how things came full circle. I knew I wanted to work in clean energy and that was affirmed by both my studies and work experience.

What drew you ultimately to clean energy and why are you passionate about it?
As little kids, I think we always have this idea that we want to make the world a better place and I've never really let go of that. When you have an ability to do something and to make other people's lives better, I think you have a responsibility to do that. From what I've learned, what I've studied, and what I've realized, I am good at working in clean energy and feel the need to work in this space.

How did you first hear about PowerMarket and what made you want to join the team?
I enjoy working with good people and I'm good at working in smaller companies and helping them grow. PowerMarket really fit all of those parameters. PowerMarket is a great company and has a goal-driven mission in the clean energy space. The idea that everyone here is making the world better and that PowerMarket has a really great and interesting idea drew me to the company and made me want to be a part of it.

Since starting virtually, what have you liked about PowerMarket so far?
I really like the people I'm working with. People here don't ask, “What have you gotten done today?” they ask “How was your day? What are you doing tomorrow? What are we doing after work?” They want to know what is going on in your life. Even in a virtual environment, the ability to get to know your coworkers and express interest in their lives outside of just work is something that very important to me.

How is PowerMarket different from other places you have worked in the past?
PowerMarket is on the smaller size of the other organizations that I have worked at but I like it a lot. Sometimes when you work at a larger company, people get this idea that if it's outside my role then it's not really my responsibility. But at PowerMarket it's really the opposite. Here people ask “Do you need a hand?” and say things like “Let's all come together and work with creative ideas to solve complex problems.” It’s that helping-hand attitude and willingness to pick up something for your coworkers that is unique.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?
Something most people don’t know about me is that I was in the Junior Olympics for three years. I was a baseball player back in high school and it was a ton of fun.
