The People Behind PowerMarket: Meet Danielle Burns

Manager of Operations

We always want to get to know you but realize that you probably know little about us. That is why we are starting this interview series to introduce you to our team.

Our PowerMarket team is lively and hardworking. But we are also passionate about clean energy and the benefits it can bring to communities, including many of our own.

So get to know us, learn more about the community solar industry, and always feel free to reach out. In case you haven’t been able to tell, we love talking about community solar and are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Danielle, you are the newest member of the PowerMarket team. What were you doing before you joined?

I've been in the clean energy industry for over 10 years. I have an undergraduate degree in environmental policy, and a master's degree in policy as well. Most of my career has been in consulting. [I] started consulting to state and federal governments. I subsequently moved to consulting in an independent engineering role, where I did work on both solar and wind energy projects.

What drew you to the clean energy industry?

I'm drawn to clean energy because it's a necessary good for our world. Energy is something that we're always going to need. Community solar is great because it helps make solar energy accessible to more people and allows us to have a more sustainable energy infrastructure for the future.

What changes would you like to see in the industry?

I think women are not as represented in the clean energy industry, particularly in C-level positions, and I'm a very strong advocate of seeing more [women there]. Organizations need this diversity of experience and this doesn't just apply to women but also minority populations. Providing that diversity to our solar industry more widely just improves the industry overall. It makes us more sustainable and also makes all organizations more open and understanding of different perspectives. In terms of community solar, it [can] make us more understanding of our subscribers too.

Why were you interested in joining PowerMarket?

I came to PowerMarket mainly because of my strong interest in community solar. I also have been around long enough to know that it's not just what you do but also who you do the work with, and PowerMarket clearly has a lot of really great employees.

What makes PowerMarket unique to you?

PowerMarket is providing a real, valuable service to both our clients, who are building these clean energy projects, and also customers who are subscribing to these projects, and filling an important space in the market that community solar really needs. PowerMarket does this in a very effective way, but also a fun way for the people who work here.

What is something you would like people to know about you that they might not be able to get from reading this interview?

I'm a true extrovert. I love chatting with people about anything and everything. I think being able to not just talk about clean energy, but also get to know my colleagues and our clients are things that I really love.
