The People Behind PowerMarket: Meet Diana Cardona

Customer Support Associate

We always want to get to know you but realize that you probably know little about us. This interview series is a way to introduce you to our team.

Our PowerMarket team is lively and hardworking. We are also passionate about clean energy and the benefits it can bring to communities, including many of our own.

So get to know us, learn more about the community solar industry, and always feel free to reach out. In case you haven’t been able to tell, we love talking about community solar and are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Let’s start off by talking about your background and how you ultimately found yourself in the renewable energy industry.

Prior to working at PowerMarket, I handled training and development for Customer and Technical support at a Fortune 500 company for almost 10 years. With the knowledge and experience that I gained, I was able to shift gears and ultimately take on a position with the Corporate Executive Escalations Department where I handled issues with Public Service Agencies. I ended up at PowerMarket after having a great conversation with the COO, Jason Kaplan. At the time, I didn’t know much about renewable energy and I had no idea that community solar even existed. But after speaking with him, I was intrigued. There was so much that I had to learn but after joining PowerMarket in my role, it really has worked out great. I feel like a true tree hugger now.

I know you personally so I know that you are wonderful with people. Why do you love doing what you do?

We all have talents and things we are good at and I believe that my talent has always been assisting others. While there can be very similar conversations throughout the day, each member presents their concerns differently and working with them is always a unique experience. I take satisfaction in knowing I am able to provide clarity with their concerns and also educate them on the benefits these programs offer. My passion for providing exceptional customer service has only flourished at PowerMarket, not only because I am truly doing what I love, but also because I am contributing to a larger purpose.

How would you describe what it’s like to work at PowerMarket? What has made you want to stay at the company?

Knowing that I am appreciated and acknowledged. Feeling a sense of personal growth and development while making good use of all my skills and being able to face new challenges daily with the support of my team. Having superiors who not only trust you to get the job done but also prepare you for success with tools, resources, and training. A company that has an amazing work environment and surrounds you with individuals who all share a common goal. These are just a few of the benefits you receive when working at PowerMarket. Why would I leave?

What does a typical day look like in your role?

Typically my normal day is taking calls, assisting the customer with understanding their bills and the credits they received, and answering questions they have so that they see that they are benefiting and saving. I also respond to email inquiries, explain the program and enroll new members, and attend meetings with my tree-hugging colleagues. I usually try to take as much time as needed because I want to end the conversation, whether it's over email or over the phone, feeling that the customer is satisfied with the response.

What gets you excited to come to work every day?

I enjoy customer support and it’s what I've done my whole life. Working with an exceptional group of people really provides an environment where everyone can excel. In previous jobs, I dreaded even the thought of waking up. It always seemed like an obligation, a reason to pay bills. But here, it's such a rewarding experience. Everyone is very supportive and connected. Even through these difficult times that have kept us separated, I could never find a better team. A work family.

What is something that most people might not know about you?

Prior to Covid, I used to volunteer at the local Staten Island zoo. We adopted a beaver at the zoo and every Saturday my daughter and I would go visit her. We used to clean out cages, feed the animals, and now still contribute every month to make sure that the animals have what they need.
